A Woman in Berlin, a war drama directed by Max Färberböck, is about a woman who tried to stay alive when the Soviet troops invaded Berlin in the closing stages of World War II. The story is set in the spring of 1945 when Berlin City was destroyed in bombings and the German Army was razed. As the city waited to be ravaged further by the arriving Russian troops, an anonymous female reporter (Nina Hoss), along with several other women tried to hide in the city, fearing rape and abuse at the hands of the Russian soldiers. The story starts off with Sara being arrested for the murder of Christina Scofield, during her and Michael’s wedding party. At the female penitentiary, some new characters are introduced, along with returning character Gretchen.Across the yard is a neighboring men’s prison, where General Krantz and T-Bag are being held. Receiving word of Sara’s incarceration, Krantz puts out a $100,000 bounty on Sara’s head. Sara is quickly poisoned, but is given medical treatment. (more…)
